as the aim is often to best serve a diverse range of interests while continuing to ensure the marina is commercially viable. Marina Projects’ international experience can help shape that vision by taking a holistic approach that recognises the various constraints and opportunities of a site and looks to serve the needs of the various activities and users. Depending on client
requirements, final reports and studies will always vary. For example, master planning for a project often follows the initial fact- finding visit where the consultant takes time to explore the site and learn about the location, the stakeholders, and their various
demands and needs. Seeing the site at first-hand and understanding the constraints of the site and neighbouring activities and uses is invaluable. Regional and worldwide marina
trends must also be considered, often over a period of several years. These also include details such as trends in yacht sizes, power and sail, long distance cruising or racing and, of course, superyacht activity. By utilising external resources – perhaps a survey of operators – this would help understand new technologies, operational practices, economic issues and boating trends that, in turn, informs consultants working on a new or redevelopment project. The results are often
instrumental in evaluating the issues that will drive masterplan, development and design. Extensive stakeholder
consultation is essential to ensure a clear picture of both current activities and future requirements. A marina consultant that can understand the language of the marine community has proven to be invaluable in delivering successful developments for Marina Projects. They will also look for ways to harmonise use of the facilities and avoid potential conflicts by treating all interests fairly and giving them proper consideration in the master planning process. A consultancy will also want to explore the full potential of the site.

usage of a site, a consultancy must consider the funding and investment for a development. For
