INDUSTRY NEWS 9 Winter bonuses offered by MDL I
mpressive bonuses are being offered by MDL Marinas through its new Otium loyalty programme, which was officially launched on 15 September. Extra points can be obtained to spend on berthing, fuel or boatyard services as MDL is doubling reward points for its Otium members. Those who utilise monthly berthing at one of MDL’s 15 participating marinas between October and December will earn 100% bonus Otium points to spend on MDL services. This means that if someone spends £500 on a monthly berth, they’ll receive £500 worth of points, so they could, for example, enjoy a free month’s berthing. MDL says this is ideal for anyone wishing to keep their boat safe and secure over the Winter months or for those wanting to carry on cruising from the comfort and convenience of a marina berth, serviced with excellent shoreside facilities. “We’re delighted to be able to
offer our customers such fantastic services and berthing options this Winter, plus an opportunity to save

with Otium,” commented Tim Mayer, Sales and Marketing Director at MDL. “For those not already enjoying the benefits of our new loyalty programme, it’s free to join, so why not start today?” The double points are available for a limited time only and subject to availability. Customers looking for an annual berth can also join Otium. Those who book by 30 November, 2020,
will enjoy this year’s prices. They will receive a 6% reduction for payment in advance and 10% of their berth value in Otium points. This means a 12-month berth at Ocean Village Marina in the heart of Southampton can be enjoyed for just £482 based on a ten metre boat per month, while the berth-holder earns 48 points every month to spend on any of MDL’s services, including fuel, boat
lifting or overnight stays. It also means a boat can be stored in the Dry Stack at MDL’s Hamble Point Marina on the River Hamble and enjoy unlimited launching on demand, seven days a week, for just £477 per month. The owner will also rack-up 46 points every month, with one point equalling one pound to spend on whatever they choose.
First phase of harbour redevelopment
The first of two phases that will see Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour on the iconic Beaulieu River undergo a redevelopment programme has been completed by Walcon Marine. This is being achieved by a complete
rebuild of the marina and the adding of increased capacity via extensions to all six piers and creating increased walk ashore berthing. While as much of the old infrastructure as possible has
been refurbished and reused, all the existing finger piers have been replaced and additional new pontoon equipment supplied for connecting to the extensions. Sections of the main walkway have also been replaced.
The initial phase began on 1 October,
last year, when Walcon began the removal of the fuelling dock, together with the three upstream pontoons and their greenheart timber piles. These were all stored on-site while dredging took place over the Winter and then re-installed in the Spring before being refurbished in situ. All the new pontoons plus additional ‘hybrid’ timber piles were delivered to the site when required to suit the agreed programme. Phase one of the works was
completed following the easing of lockdown and the marina reopened in late June, just in time for the lifting of the restrictions on boat-owners returning to sea. When fully completed in Spring,
2021, Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour will have an additional 60 berths, bringing the total to 175, and capable of taking boats up to 30 metres in length.
