Crash victim Jay, 33, ‘idolised by his sons’
THE family of a young father killed in a road accident have described him as “loyal, loving and caring” man who was idolised by his two sons. Jay Hayes (33) died when his
red Honda motorcycle was in col- lision with a BMW in Pembury at about 11.40am on August 27. The plumber, who was said to
have had a passion for motor- bikes since childhood, died at the scene.
A statement released by Jay’s family said: “A loving son, father, brother, husband and friend to many, Jay was the most loyal, car- ing and loving person. “Testament to that is the amount of love and well wishes we’ve received from friends old and new since the news of his passing. “As a family, we are utterly heartbroken that such a huge part of our family has been taken from us so instantly, and so young. “Our lives will never be the same and we will miss Jay, his laugh, his smile, his love, every day of our lives.” Jay, who lived in Halling, was brought up in West Malling and
much planned for their future to- gether. “We are comforted by the fact that Jay was in a happy place when he died, he had so much to look forward to, and people in his life who cared and loved him so much.” Kent Police’s Serious Collision

Take litter home, visitors told Market date
RESIDENTS in Downswood are angry at the behaviour of visitors to Mallard Way Park, the open space alongside the River Len. Since lockdown rules were re-
laxed in July, this peaceful oasis of calm has born the brunt of an in- vasion of picnickers and other revellers who regularly leave the park looking like a refuse site. Local residents Amanda Bal- dock and Alison Gladwin (pic- tured) are incensed at the complete lack of respect these people have displayed to both the natural space and those who live close by. Alison said: “Most of these peo- ple are not local. They come visit- ing with their families, spread their picnics out across the park, then leave all their rubbish behind when they go home. “They bring it all in bags to start with, so why can’t they bag it all up and take it home with them?” Alison and Amanda have both

has never been this bad. Amanda said: “The locals all appreciate the beauty of the park and look after it. There are waste bins provided, but these visitors never use them.
“It’s appalling behaviour and
they should have more respect for both the environment and those who live here.”
Discarded sandwiches, wrap- pers, plastic bags and even a sub- stantial amount of an illegal
substance, have been among the detritus found following these summer invasions. Alison added: “None of us have
a problem with visitors enjoying this beautiful open space. We even tolerate the foul language and abusive behaviour of some of the teenagers. “We just wish they would all re-
spect the park and local residents, and take their rubbish home with them.”
