Solihull Solihull Chamber Patrons

Firms to go for glory at online awards

Solihull Chamber of Commerce’s hugely popular annual awards will be going ahead this year as a free online event. Businesses of all shapes and sizes across the town will be celebrated at the virtual event, taking place on 15 October. In previous years, the awards spectacular is usually hosted in person and attended by

hundreds from across the region. Due to ongoing restrictions surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, organisers of the event have decided to take the event online. Tickets, applications for award nominations and sponsorship of the event will be available from 3 August. Lillian Elekan, head of Solihull Chamber of Commerce, said: “We’re really excited to be able to

host our hugely popular annual awards this year, taking it online for the very first time. “Businesses in Solihull have faced an enormous amount of pressure and strain in 2020, due to

the ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 crisis. However, they have undoubtedly stepped up in the face of adversity to keep business moving, help their local communities, and support staff. “We’re encouraging any business which wants to keep up to date with the latest on the

awards, whether that is regarding award applications, sponsorship opportunities or tickets, to subscribe to our weekly Solihull Chamber newsletter and follow the Chamber on Twitter.”

Chamber’s drive to

help environment Solihull Chamber is urging businesses in the borough to help the environment – and is offering help from local students to achieve this. The students will provide help with devising

‘green’ schemes for the businesses – and all for free. It’s all part of the Chamber’s ‘EcoPledge’ initiative, launched in the Spring. The EcoPledge urges businesses to make just one change to their current practices, in a drive to cut down emissions and bolster sustainability. The students can help with this, courtesy of a

programme devised by training provider Digital Innovators, based at Solihull College. All the businesses have to do is commit up to

12 hours in eight weeks to work with the student team on the live brief, which is part of their training course. Digital Innovators aims to be supporting 20 business projects from September. In the past, Digital Innovators students have

come up with a range of unusual projects to help the environment – and local businesses. Previous students developed a project where

energy generated via a revolving door could be captured and used to power building lights.
