New mayor boosts business morale

Introducing ‘What’s On Sutton Coldfield’

By councillor Simon Ward, leader, Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council

Open for business: Mayor Cllr Mosson with Café Nero manager Samantha Wheeler

Cllr Jane Mosson has been elected as the new mayor of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. Town councillors and members of the public

witnessed her appointment during a virtual meeting of the Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council. Cllr Mosson has represented Roughley Ward

on the Town Council since the boundary changes and election of 2018. From the inception of the council in 2016

under the old ward boundaries, she represented Four Oaks. Since 2016, Cllr Mosson has been a member of

the Amenities, Leisure and Community Services Committee. Cllr Mosson, a Sutton Coldfield resident for 41

years, said: “I am extremely proud and honoured to become mayor of this wonderful town of ours. “In normal times I would now be looking

forward to attending a variety of events across the town and spending as much time as possible

meeting local people. “Sadly, many of these events have had to be

cancelled. However, I hope to see innovative and creative ways which will unite the whole town and make us proud to live and work in Sutton Coldfield.” One of the mayor’s first engagements was to

visit town centre businesses to discuss their experiences of lockdown and to thank those who have remained open throughout. Among the retailers Cllr Mosson visited were

WH Smith, Waterstones, Café Nero and Grapetree. Town Centre BID manager Mike Bushell said:

“We really appreciated a visit from our new mayor. “The last few months have been difficult for

everyone and our town centre businesses have worked hard to reopen in trying circumstances. It was really good to see that being appreciated.”

Online publication

has the edge An online publication packed with marketing tips and insights has been launched by Sutton Coldfield agency EDGE Creative. EDGE Connect was originally due to be a

printed publication but the agency chose to press ahead with a digital version to reach more people, with many businesses working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. It follows on from the launch of the first phase of EDGE’s new website earlier this year.

Those interested in joining a mailing list for the next edition, or would like to discuss any of the features, email editor Jessica Greaney, at jessica@edge-creative.com

Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council and Sutton Coldfield BID have joined forces to build What’s On Sutton Coldfield, the go- to website for what’s happening across the Royal Town. As businesses across Sutton Coldfield

reopen following the Covid-19 lockdown, What’s On Sutton Coldfield is inviting businesses and venues to provide the very latest information on where’s open and use this free platform as a virtual shop window for their reopening plans and future events. Our Royal Town is a great place to live

but up until now we haven’t had a way to shout about all the great things that make it so special. What’s On Sutton Coldfield will do just this and help shine a spotlight on the breadth of events and activities across the town as we begin to emerge from lockdown. The Town Council wants to be at the forefront of banging the drum for Royal Sutton Coldfield and this is another great way to do this. Work has already begun to initially

showcase the best of what the town centre has to offer, and plans are to expand What’s On Sutton Coldfield to include the other local centres and places of interest across the town, celebrating what makes Royal Sutton Coldfield a great place to live and encouraging residents and visitors to explore local venues, events and offers.

For businesses or places of interest that wish to feature on What’s On Sutton Coldfield, please use the add events form at whatsonsuttoncoldfield.co.uk or contact info@whatsonsuttoncoldfield.co.uk.
