impressive tally is a former star of the sport, the late Eduardo Moore, on six wins. He was a stalwart of the Vestey family’s Foxcote and Stowell Park teams in the 1970s and ’80s. The late Mark Vestey recalled playing with Moore in an article in a previous Club publication: “Eduardo played unconventional polo for the time – he invented tapping and turning.” Mark himself has the honour of being


the most successful patron, winning the Queen’s Cup seven times in both Stowell Park and Foxcote liveries. Meanwhile the Pieres family must hold


the record for having the most members of the same family listed as winners. Gonzalo Pieres Snr and his brother Alfonso started

Gonzalo Snr’s sons, Gonzalo Jnr, Facundo and Nico have all added their name to the Cup, Nico joining in the family tradition after Scone Polo’s success last summer. Facundo has the most wins under his belt – five – to his father’s four! Claire Tomlinson is the only playing lady patron to have lifted the Cup. She


received the trophy in 1979 with the family’s Los Locos team. She then watched from the Royal Box when her sons Luke and Mark Tomlinson won the Cup with Apes Hill exactly 30 years later. Another major star of the modern


Queen’s Cup show is its title sponsor Cartier. Supporter of polo at Guards Polo Club for some 36 years, Cartier has sponsored The Queen’s Cup since 2012.
