ome five years ago the Polo Managers at Cowdray Park and Guards Polo Club – Chris Bethell and Antony Fanshawe respectively – devised a cunning plan: create an annual test for some of their clubs’ best young players. This would offer these rising stars at Guards and Cowdray a unique opportunity to experience a competitive game against their peers on top-class polo fields. Roll forward to 2019 and it was the turn of Guards Polo Club to host. There was all to
play for as the series was tied up at two games apiece. Sadly the Cup returned to Cowdray for another year as the visitors narrowly beat the home side 4-3 on The Duke’s Ground. Ollie Cork also headed back to Sussex with the Best Playing Pony prize for Surucata, whom he had played in two chukkas of this always hard-fought contest.
Cowdray Park: Daniel Batchelor; Marcus Cork; Terence Lent; Ollie Cork. Guards Polo Club: Manny Arber; Jamie Grayson; Charles Cooney; Henry Porter (3).
