Name: Rich Adams Role: Director at Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce


What do you do and why do you enjoy it? I work with businesses to help them access the University of Plymouth’s world class academic knowledge and state of the art facilities and equipment. I also work with students to help them fulfil their enterprise potential.


What inspires you? New thinking. I’m a hurry up kind of person.


What drives you? To come up with an idea nobody has thought of or taking an existing idea and applying it in a way never done before.


Where do you see the future of your organisation? Universities are vital to the research base of this country and an integral part of the local economy. Whilst people still want to attain knowledge the future is bright for universities.


What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Never swim in a crowded pool.


If you could sum up your CV in one word, it would be..? Different.


When it comes to business, do you follow head or heart? Heart for creativity, head for money.


Describe yourself in five words A go forward type person.


How do you balance life and work? Work to live


What’s your favourite quote? “Make sure you get the cash in the till.” E.g. close the deal.


Who has been the greatest influence on you? Family certainly, some of my academics when studying but work wise I try and learn from as many people as possible.


What are you most proud of? My sons and the ability to make a great crème brûlee.
