Coping With COVID-19

It’s the 50th Anniversary of

The Rider this year. We’d hoped to have all kinds of great stories to share about how such an amazing horse industry here in Ontario has supported us for so many years through your stories and advertising support.

But now, we’re left to navi-

gate uncharted waters as we join to- gether, all of us, to figure out how to get through the challenge we face with COVID-19. The nature of the horse indus-

Calgary Stampede Update

April 23, 2020

health and safety front of mind.” “This is hard, but we

need to make these types of decisions right now in order to stay safe and move for- ward,” says Tom Sampson, Chief, Calgary Emergency Management Agency. “It’s not what anyone wants to see happen but it’s pretty much mandatory at this time, and we applaud the Stampede for putting the safety of all Calgarians and

their guests first.” The Calgary Stam-

pede has been around for 108 years, through two World Wars, the Great De- pression and a devastating flood. But the loss of this year’s Stampede is bigger than our not-for-profit or- ganization. Many local busi- nesses are part of the greater Stampede, from the restau- rants, bars and hotels, to the
