MEMBER ZONE MEMBERPROFILE
NAME: Adey Peterkin COMPANY: Drum United JOB TITLE: Project manager
WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND? I’ve been a drum workshop facilitator for 10 years and I’ve played drums since the age of 10 (almost 30 years ago). Previously, I trained in Stage Management, theatre production and events and worked ‘behind the scenes’ in a small theatre in London. I went on to work in education before transferring my skillset to setting up Drum United.
WHAT DOES YOUR COMPANY DO? We provide uplifting, unifying and social drumming activities for businesses, corporates, education faculties and community settings. This involves social drum clubs and team events for businesses, education projects for young and disadvantaged people, and community projects for social events. In the last year, we’ve launched the Positive Mindful Drumming program which is available as e- learning/e-club for everyone to access at
drumunited.academy
HOW DID IT ALL START? Back in 2010 I was in the fortunate position to come through a mental health crisis. I was lucky enough to have the support of family, friends and mentors. I received great advice from a business advisor funded by The Shaw Trust/The Jobcentre Plus and I was able to begin business specialising in drumming with the focus on the social rewards for all service users.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR? I have led projects with grants obtained from Arts Council England and Youth Music totalling almost £100,000.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU’VE EVER TAKEN – AND DID IT WORK OUT? Setting up a business which depended on me nurturing my self-belief to lead workshops for large groups of people, helping them discover the power of drumming.
WHICH BUSINESS PERSON OR COMPANY DO YOU MOST ADMIRE, AND WHY? Brendon Burchard. He is the world's leading high performance coach and one of the most-watched, quoted, and followed personal development trainers in history. He overcame traumas including past mental health struggles, and continues to help inspire many people, myself included.
WHAT EXCITING PROJECTS IS YOUR BUSINESS WORKING ON? We are offering online social clubs via our e-learning platform at
drumunited.academy. We are also continuing to provide face-to-face workshops, team events and social clubs for businesses. Finally, your organisation can sponsor a workshop to take place a school or charity local to you, to help fulfil your corporate social responsibilities.
WHAT MADE YOU JOIN MILTON KEYNES CHAMBER? In my opinion, a chamber of commerce represents the foundations of a great, thriving community. That is, forward thinking, optimistic realists, with a desire to collaborate. People – its all about people.
