STARSHIP ROBOTS EXPAND INTO CENTRAL MILTON KEYNES

As Starship Technologies celebrate two years of commercial operation in the UK, they have announced the rollout of their hugely popular robot delivery service in Central Milton Keynes. The expansion was prompted

by the demand and success of the company’s service in other areas across MK, including Monkston, Emerson Valley and Bletchley, and is the first time that robot delivery has been made available in the centre of a UK town. Since April 2018, Starship has

made over 100,000 deliveries across MK, with some residents making up to 200 orders per year.

In that time, Starship has faced growing calls for the service to expand to other areas of the town, especially the centre where 180,000 people work. Using the Starship deliveries

app, a resident or worker in Central Milton Keynes can order food and drink to be delivered from some of the most popular brands in the town, including Peels Juice Bar, Pepes Piri Piri, Bandit Street Food, Maaya Indian and Legend One Sushi Bar, with more merchants to be added. This means people can get

their lunch delivered by Starship’s fleet of robots from diner to door, giving them the option to have

food conveniently delivered around their schedule. This new

expansion from Starship will help ease congestion in the centre of town by giving people the option of electrically- powered robot delivery, where before they would potentially rely on delivery services that use cars and other environmentally- unfriendly modes of transport. Both residents within the centre of town and workers will be able to order food at the touch of a button.

PROTOTYPING BY TRANSITION - A BLUEPRINT FOR SOFTWARE SUCCESS

For over 22 years, Transition Computing has been known for bridging the gap between their clients’ software capabilities and ambitious business goals. Their team has recently been approached by a

successful nationwide business known as a “one- stop shop” in the construction industry. The company is working on behalf of some of the largest housing developers in the UK to procure water, gas and electricity mains and services. Their on-site works require engineers to mark

up construction blueprints to show where they have laid equipment and to record changes to the plans. The accuracy of these diagrams is crucial to the success of all stages of their projects, from planning to implementation as well as carrying out inspections. Enabling their mobile workforce to go paperless and ensuring immediate access to the

most up-to-date documents presented technical challenges. Large technical drawings had to be downloaded to and edited on mobile devices, and then uploaded back into the central database. In only a couple of weeks, Transition had

developed a prototype of the future application that allowed the user to access the blueprints from a central database, to zoom in to specific areas of the plans, to add text, annotations, graphics as well as freehand drawings, and to share the edited plans with the back office. This prototype demonstrated how the

application will bring better efficiency and productivity to the Client’s operations, and gained their confidence that Transition was the partner to work with.

of Starship, said: “We’ve seen huge surges in demand since we started

operating in Milton Keynes two years

ago. We’re excited that both residents and workers can

now enjoy this low cost and convenient benefit in the centre of Milton Keynes, and we hope that it will make the town an even more attractive place to work in the future.”
