Civic triumphant among Canada’s top selling cars in 2019

By Cole Parkinson Alberta Newspaper Group

D

riving around these days, you’re likely to see the same makes of cars continuously from your point A to point B.

There are times where you will be able to

count on both hands seeing the same car, and some times it’s even the same colour. With that in mind, the Global Automakers

of Canada and driving.ca have released sales figures of the top-10 selling cars in Canada from 2019. 2019 was down quite significantly in

terms of sales of these top 10 cars, around 19,000 units, but they still reigned supreme in terms of overall sales. Unfortunately, early 2020 sales are even

worse, largely in part to the COVID-19 pan- demic, but let’s take a look back at which cars were hitting the highway the most across Canada in 2019. 10. Honda Accord, 11,381 sold Honda’s four-door sedan took to the top

ten list with 11,381 sales in Canada over 2019,which was an 18 per cent drop from the previous year. According to cars.com,the 2019 version has a 4.9 review with 195 total reviews. 9. Kia Soul, 11,868 sold The Kia Soul, which is quite an odd-look- ing car if we’re being honest, took the number eight spot. While the Accord saw a steady drop from 2018, the Soul saw better sales in 2019

with an eight per cent increase. The Kia Soul has a 4.8 score on cars.com

from 134 reviews. 8.Toyota Camry, 13,654 sold As the list continues, you’ll continue to see more four-door cars and number eight is no exception with the Camry. While Toyota sold 13,654 Camrys in 2019, it was down six per cent compared to 2018. Cars.com has 263 consumer reviews for the 2019 edition of the Camry with an over- all 4.7 score, with purchasers particularly happy with the exterior styling. 7. Kia Forte, 15,549 sold Kia makes their second appearance with

the Forte, which saw an eight per cent increase in 2019. Kia fully redesigned the Forte sedan in 2019 and that helped sales numbers and the car got quite a few good reviews along the way. It rated at 4.8 with 136 total reviews on

cars.com and people rated highly the exte- rior styling of the car, reliability, and the value for the money. 6.Volkswagon Jetta, 17,260 sold Continuing with cars that saw a jump in

sales from 2018 to 2019, at number eight is the Volkswagen Jetta, 17,260 With sales up 14 per cent in 2019, the Jetta saw over 2,000 more units hit Canadian roads compared to 2018. Reviews on cars.com were a little lower than the previous models as it currently sits at a 4.3 with a total of 221 reviews. Consumers aimed at the reliability of the model and the value for the money. 5.Volkswagon Golf, 19,668 sold The golf comes right behind the Jetta and although they sold over 2,000 more Golfs than Jettas in 2019, the total number of Golfs sold in 2019 was down from 2018. While it was an eight per cent decrease in

sales, the Golf remained a popular choice for Canadians. 4. Mazda 3, 21,276 sold While the Mazda 3 saw over 21,000 sales in 2019, it was still down 20 per cent com- pared to the previous year. Mazda launched an all-new 3 model in 2019 and while they probably would have liked to see higher sales numbers, they still sold a fair amount of cars and were a top- five seller in the country.
