during the early hours of Monday morning. It was a full day’s drive to Northern Spain.

We arrived in good time and settled the horses down for what we thought would be 10 hours stop. Only to be rudely disturbed before we’d even got any sleep by sirens in the village nearby. The police were driving around the area telling everyone to stay indoors, anyone outside after midnight would be arrested. Another groom came knocking on our lorry door and suggested we moved on if we could. It was a bit of a panic to load up so quickly. Fortunately because both Charlotte and I drive, it meant one of us could get some sleep whilst the other drove. The horses are good travellers and had already had some rest, food and water thank goodness. We drove through the night to Le Mans in France, I am happy to say they all travelled well. In Le Mans we all got plenty of rest. We kept hearing more stories of France locking down as well. It was a quiet journey to Calais to catch the ferry home. When we got to Calais I think everyone had the same idea. The queues went on for miles, we had to wait 5 hours to finally get a crossing, the horses were fed and watered on the lorry whilst we waited. It was difficult to relax, although we knew we were going to get on eventually. Finally, we got home, we were all so relieved to be back.

Seeing the horses with their heads over their own doors is such a lovely sight. Travelling to shows has never been so stressful but I can’t wait for the next trip! #staysafe

There’s no such word as can’t! £20.00 Tim Stockdale is one of the best-known faces in British showjumping. His own road to international glory began as a keen Pony Club member, when his talent was apparent from early on. Tim, however, doesn’t come from a horsey background. His is a tale of hard work and determination. It’s a fine example of what can be achieved through true grit, ambition, drive and motivation, which is probably what makes him one of the most liked, approachable and admired showjumpers around today. The idea behind this book is to provide a light, entertaining read, an upliſting account of the most notable, memorable and inspiring events of his life and career – including a brief look at his childhood and the early riding years. It features many light-hearted anecdotal tales about some of the jobs he did to make ends meet, his first steps on the showjumping ladder, and how he successfully combines his showjumping career with a thriving business as a trainer of horses and riders. As a great raconteur, aſter-dinner speaker and adept teller of stories, Tim’s frankness and ability to ‘tell it as it is,’ as he charts his way through the good times, the bad, the highs and lows of a life with horses, will certainly make people smile.
