THE ADVENTURES OF GINNY
EXCITING TIME FOLLOWED BY TOUGH TIMES S
o here I am, on the first evening of UK lockdown. To be fair it doesn’t feel very different to the last week of living in a world where the scary and uncertain times of Covid
19 are influencing what we do.
Prior to this everyone was in high spirits and full of excitement of what 2020 was going to hold for them. Be it in life or equestrian. I myself had some very exciting plans, with my entry in for Badminton 5*, I have a yard full of the best horses and owners all with very exciting goals for the year. All this excitement seems somewhat of a distant memory, although the usual routine of training continues we just have nowhere to go. I am lucky that I got a taster of how well the horses are feeling and that the endless winter months of training had paid off.
I attended 2 events. First of all, 2 days at Oasby in Grantham. CHF Archie and Interlaken W competing in the Novice. They did nice tests, not winning ones but certainly for their first time on grass since last season they contained their excitement. Both boys jumped brilliant clears in the SJ and two great runs XC. CHF Archie finishing in the top 10, Interlaken W had a bit of a baby moment after a great round but this knocked him off the leader- board.
Our second trip back up north and for the second time the alarm went off at 4am (Oh how I long for that right now!). The big boys outing, Trendy Captain Clover and Undalgo De Windsor. Captain did his ever reliable dressage and felt brilliant putting him in the top few in a very competitive Open intermediate section. Beau had some tension but he just about kept a lid on it! They both pinged their way around the jumping phases and notched up another 2 double clears. Buzzing on the way home and so excited for their next outings…
Next stop Swalcliffe Park, a nice local one but we still managed to have an ‘early hours’ departure time! It was the turn of the young ones this weekend, day 1 with the first timers. ‘Time To Gamble ’Owned by myself and Iona Dent. A lovely 6yo homebred that I have been producing over the last few years. He spent his 5yo year show jumping and growing into himself. So it is exciting to have him out and he certainly took everything in his stride. Competing in the BE90 Open, he did a very grown up test and managed to complete on his dressage score after a perfect double clear inside the time to place 9th.

‘Renegade Cruising’ Owned by Lorene and Dom Watson. His first ever event also, after taking a lot of time and patience to produce him slowly over the last year, it certainly paid off. This 7yo full of confidence and loving his eventing life. He did a competitive dressage followed by a double clear to finish on 33 and place 6th.
‘Candelaria’ Owned by Abi Busk. Also a 7yo, previously For the latest news visit
