elcome to the Spring issue of Forest Bioenergy Review in uncertain times as the corona virus spreads from its source in Asia to affect the lives and economies of nations throughout the Pacific and now both the European and


American continents. At the time of writing, the population of the British Isles is effectively


in ‘lockdown’, with restrictions on travel, a ban on meetings of more than two people for the next three weeks and a request to work from home wherever possible. These steps by the UK Government were taken on 23rd March in a bid to protect key workers on the front line in the fight against what is now a global pandemic.


As more individuals are confined to their homes, local networks have


experienced a rapid increase in energy consumption, which it is hoped will be off-set by a drop in industrial demand to maintain the stability needed for day-to-day consumption.


It is important to stay positive, so let’s now look ahead to the April E-Newsletter, followed by the Summer issue of Forest Bioenergy Review.


We are planning to provide general news via the April E-Newsletter and more in-depth coverage in issue 46, to be published this Summer, which will feature: Biomass shipping, loading and delivery logistics; Gasification plants using woody biomass; and Pellet production and processing.
