Conference season will bring the profession together in 2019
CILIP’s conference season is about to get underway with Wales, Scotland and then CILIP Conference coming over the next three months. CILIP Ireland’s Joint Conference with the Library Association of Ireland took place last month, with a theme of inclusive libraries. Now it is the turn of the other devolved nations to bring the profession together and share insights, knowledge and experience.
Wales 2019 The first will be taking place later this month, as CILIP Cymru Wales 2019 heads to the capital for two days on 16 and 17 May. This year’s conference theme is Knowledge and Information Literacies, and will look at innovations and impact. There will also be strands on knowledge and information management and collab- orative working. Speakers include Dafydd Tudur, head of Digital Access Section, Llyfrgell Gened- laethol Cymru / The National Library of Wales; Aude Charillon, Library and Infor- mation Manager at Newcastle Libraries; and Catherine Jenkins, Health Literacy Project manager at NELFT NHS. Organisers promise an inspiring and welcoming event, saying: “Our conference offers the opportunity to network, discover, learn, discuss and share with library and information professionals across all sectors. We have inspiring keynote speakers, short presentations, interactive workshops, and areas to have a good chat over a cup of coffee or tea.” For full programme and booking details visit

CILIP Conference 2019 This year’s CILIP Conference returns to Manchester for a two-day flagship event. Service Manager at The King’s Fund. She will be talking about diversity and inclu- sion and how the information profession should be looking at personal experience and impact as a form of evidence to help change cultures (pp. 16-18). Hong-Anh will also be chairing a panel session on Diversity in the Profession, where she will be joined by Binni Brynolf, Natasha Chowdory, Heena Karavdra, and Tom Peach – who will each bring different per- spectives to the debate. Something for everyone Each of the conferences feature social and networking opportunities, helping delegates to build new professional con- nections. They also bring a wealth of expertise and experience together in one place – whether that is through delegates, speakers or workshops. A broad cross-sec- tion of the profession will be represented – ranging from public libraries to knowl- edge management. Bring together differ- ent disciplines allows us to celebrate the differences and highlight the similarities, showing that there are many possible career paths to be taken as an information professional. The emphasis is on professional devel- opment whatever stage in your career you are at, and whatever your interests. Attending one of CILIP’s conferences will enable you to explore and discover new facets to the library, information and knowledge professions.
