TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Offshore Hydraulic Training at National Fluid Power Centre Expands with Support from

Dana SAC UK Running highly practical courses for technicians and engineers, when NFPC needed to expand facilities in their practical laboratory, Dana SAC UK supplied 16 new Brevini Motion Systems orbital motors to support specialist training and development for engineers across the UK.

Every student on a NFPC hydraulic course will spend some time in the practical laboratory and facilities are in high demand, particularly once participants get to the part of their course where they are troubleshooting circuits. With candidate numbers at the Centre on the increase, Dana SAC UK were delighted to supply 16 new BG E 50cc/rev orbital motors, which complement other Dana and Brevini® fluid power products – including winches and control valves – used in training at the Centre.

With significant expertise in the offshore and marine sectors, Dana have a longstanding relationship with NFPC and helped develop the Stage Two Hydraulics Offshore and Winches courses. The highly-practical Offshore Hydraulics course enables participants to better manage and maintain the complex hydraulic systems and controls associated with offshore applications, focusing on determining the causes of system failure, the application of preventative measures and the procedures to follow to carry out effective fault diagnosis. The Stage Two Winch Hydraulic Systems course is designed for technicians and engineers involved in the maintenance and

management of winch systems across the offshore and marine sector, as well as fishing, dockside, construction and crane applications. Demand for the 4-day Offshore Hydraulics course continues to grow – a positive sign for the sector – and staff from Dana recently spent a week participating in the newly-launched programme and providing feedback to NFPC.

Martin Terjesen, Technical Manager at Dana SAC UK, comments: “At the end of the Stage Two course at NFPC, students will put together an hydraulic circuit, confirm operation, and then wait for a tutor to introduce a ‘fault’. Students must then follow a robust troubleshooting process – a great way to end the course, as it really shows how much students have learned, and is truly hands-on.”

Dana’s commitment to the offshore industry continues to grow and they

exhibited at Subsea Expo in Aberdeen in February, where visitors were able to view and operate an interactive winch display simulating a tensioning system, created to demonstrate Dana’s winch range and wider systems capability. Dana’s work with NFPC builds on the practical training ethos established over 50 years ago through the Luciano Brevini Training School and enables them to share the extensive industry experience gained from numerous projects for offshore and marine clients.
