Région Sud

Soak up the sun and the sights of France’s glorious south

FROM pine forests to lavender fields, Provence-Alpes- Côte d’Azur – also know as Région Sud – is intoxicating in every way. Follow in the footsteps of all those famous artists who, over the centuries, have been drawn here by the magical light, and set up camp near hilltop villages, sun-drenched beaches and some of the best cities France has to offer, such as Nice and Marseille.

Active types will be drawn to the wonder of the

Gorges du Verdon where you can enjoy the hike of a lifetime through scenery unlike any other. Or, if you’re looking to relax on your holidays, there’s always the beach or the campsite pool. Alternatively, take in the shopping delights of Riviera glamour spots such as Saint-Tropez and Cannes. Marseille is growing rapidly in popularity as one of

France’s must-see destinations, and deservedly so, while Arles and Orange are worth a visit for their Roman ruins. Arty types, head to the Musée Picasso in the former Château Grimaldi at Antibes – the artist lived there for six months in the 1940s. Finally, foodie fans can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine at its best. Make sure you pop along to one of the area’s many markets and marvel at the colourful displays. ■
