A little horse with a big heart By Nicola Corstorphine, photos by JUMAPhotography

was bucked off a new horse, internally severing my right leg and dislocating my right shoulder. The prognosis wasn’t good and I was told I’d be left partially disabled and unable to ride horses again. I consulted with the amazing Professor Mackay (inventor of the internal brace) who assured me he could have me back riding in five months and keeping to his word, I sat back on my horse almost five months to the day.

I had to overcome lots of demons and was so shocked at how my confidence had just vanished, but I persevered and with a lot of encouragement from friends I kept at it. It was the most traumatic period in my life but I’m so glad I kept pushing myself.

I then began thinking perhaps another horse was needed and

was involved in a rather horrific riding accident in 2016. I was at work and

She makes up for her height in ability and sass

fast forward to October 2017 saw a welcome to my little bay mare, not my usual big stocky 17hh plus type. No this little pudding stands at 15.1hh, but what she lacks in height, she makes up for in attitude and sass.

I couldn’t love her more if I tried

I stumbled upon Gieanda more through fate I think. Originally, I had tried her sister but the owner decided to loan her out to a friend's daughter. Six weeks later, I received a text message asking if I’d found anything suitable yet. No I replied, as I hadn’t really been looking, so I arranged to

A show jumping star

in the making By Jen Macgregor

been competing in British Showjumping for just under two years. She’s already had so much success, including being selected for the under 10 Scottish team at the Scottish Home Pony Show, has qualified for both the 128 and 138 stepping stones, qualified for Rye British novice second rounds and now she’s qualified for the 128 springboards. She has had numerous wins and is always top of the leaderboard every time out. Back in November, she was the 11 and under Scottish champion and this was just two weeks after taking a rotational fall on one pony, ending up in A&E. She was also second in the rising star championship also at the Home Pony.

I still to this day have no idea why I agreed to take such a dainty little firecracker on, but I did, and two years later we are a match made in heaven. Don’t

be misunderstood, my little bay mare is the naughtiest, sassiest mare you will ever set eyes on but I couldn’t love her anymore if I tried. She pushes me to the limits every time I sit on her, but she makes it all so much fun. And boy, does she make me feel alive.
