KUDZOO’S Best of 2019 Music is very subjective. What follows is a

list of the recordings released during 2019 that impacted me the most deeply, regardless of style, whether they be local, national or universally fa- mous. Good music is just good music, don’t you agree. That said, feel free to e-mail me with your opinions. michaelbuffaloismith@gmail.com

great original tunes.

5. The Bakersfield Sound 1940-1974. A killer boxed set with 300 songs and a massive hard back book tracing the unique roots of the sound that Buck Owens capitalized on.

6. Tedeschi Trucks Band- Signs. Susan and Derek can do no wrong, and their large band sound as tight as ever on this one. They are the new Delaney & Bonnie!

7. Jimi Hendrix - Songs for Groovy Chil- dren: The Fillmore East Concerts. A great boxed set of 5 CDs, featuring the Band of Gyp- sies-Hendrix, Buddy Miles and Billy Cox. Consist- ing largely of never before released recordings, this is a real treat, finding Jimi conversing with the band and the audience and playing his very heart out.

1. Uncle Walt’s Band - An American in Texas (Expanded Edition). We in Spartanburg, SC have a true connection to David Ball, Champ Hood and Walter Hyatt’s Uncle Walt’s Band. After all, they started out here before moving to Austin, and many of us recall seeing the boys play around town nearly every week. This reissue of one of their finest albums, is packed with bonus tracks. Some wonderful songs and excellent play- ing.

2. Kinky Friedman - Resurrection. Possibly the Kinkster’s finest ever, reminiscent of the best John Prine or Kristofferon releases. Top notch songwriting delivered with lots of Texas heart and soul.

3. The Allman-Betts Band - Down to the River. The second generation of Allman Brothers is off and running on a full head of steam! Devon Allman, Duane Betts and Berry Oakley, Jr keep it in the family with an excellent debut and tour.

4. The Boxmasters – Speck. Bud, Teddy and J.D. keep it real with another rocking album of

8. Bruce Springsteen - On Broadway. An in- timate, one man show that finds the Boss telling stories and playing his great songs on the Great White Way.

9. Bob Dylan: The Rolling Thunder Review: The 1975 Live Recordings. A massive 14-disc set containing full concerts from the second leg of the huge tour that found Bobby accompanied by Joan Beaz, Joni Mitchell, Ramblin Jack Elliott, Mick Ronson, and more in some of his finest sounding shows ever.
