MBE for services to occupational health and safety in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in December 1993.” Part of the firm’s current growth has also come from an
unexpected quarter. “There are lots of reasons we are looking to grow now, including Brexit,” explained Beckie. “We expected our overseas work to dry up because of Brexit but instead it’s increasing as many of our overseas clients have called on us to do audits for them throughout Europe. Many of our overseas customers have sites in places like America and New Zealand and they’ve asked us to monitor their sites there too. I think in the health and safety arena it’ll be business as usual after Brexit although I expect there to be a shuffle in the construction regulations shortly afterwards.” Looking to its own future, the firm has every reason to
be confident of further growth and success. It has a varied client list, offering smaller businesses,
which may not be able to afford inhouse health and safety resources, its Competent Person Service, while working on huge projects for major names such as Birmingham Airport, Honeywell and Cobham. Beckie said: “We’re successful because our clients know
we’re in it for the long haul. We build relationships with our clients that last for years. They tell us we are part of their families and we make them part of our family. We know how they work and how we can assist them and our clients love that personal touch.
“They get to deal with the same people, we effectively
become like one of their employees and they can tap into our expertise when they need us. Many of our clients refer to us as ‘the fourth emergency service’. “We care about them and if they face difficult issues they
know we will be there to help them. We even have clients who have been with us ever since we started - which I think says a lot.”

The company can provide a ‘complete’ health and safety service to their many clients. This service includes the design and delivery of specific training programmes, which can be adapted to suit a client’s individual requirements.
ON JOINING THE CHAMBER: “We joined the Chamber to raise our profile in the area. The Chamber team are always so friendly and helpful. We enjoy the relaxed feel of the networking events, we’ve used the legal advice line when we were having problems with a customer who hadn’t paid us and we’ve accessed the online HR documents when we took on a new starter. Every year we have had enough business from being a member to at least pay for our membership – on some occasions it would have paid for our membership two and three times over. We’ve also run training courses for the Chamber which have been really successful.”
