TALKING BUSINESS

A HEALTHY APPROACH TO DOING BUSINESS

In uncertain times, European Health and Safety Consultants is thriving and has exciting plans to grow its business. Company director BECKIE STAINCLIFFE explains how the family-run firm is going from strength to strength.

European Health and Safety Consultants (EHSC Ltd) offers an extensive range of health and safety services and training courses to clients of all sizes across the world. According to the firm one of the best decisions it ever

made was moving to Milton Keynes 13 years ago. Its move to the city from Bedfordshire resulted in growth for the business and the firm is currently preparing to take on new staff to build its local client base even further. EHSC Ltd is led by managing director Paul Winter and

directors Margaret Winter, Beckie Staincliffe, and Steve Parker, with support from office manager Heather O’Gormley. Beckie, who is Paul and Margaret’s daughter, first got a

taste for the business when she helped in the office as a teenager and she officially joined the firm 15 years ago. Beckie said: “I‘m proud to be the second generation to

take on the business. We’re planning to take on two new employees in the next six months which is a big step forward for us because for 20-plus years we’ve kept the same four or five employees. “Our people have stayed with us because we care

about our employees. Not everything is about work but we all have a huge passion for health and safety and, because we know some people find it a dry subject, we try to make it fun for people wherever possible. “We’re looking to hire new members for our

team locally because we want to give back to the community and we want to have the resources here to be able to do more work

around Milton Keynes. Our big contracts lead to us travelling a lot and for me personally I’d like to do more work here because I have a young family.” Today, most of the firm’s overseas work comes via its

website while the majority of its local work has come about through word of mouth and its network of Chamber contacts. The team will be familiar to many Chamber members as over the years they have regularly attended Chamber networking events and also run the Chamber’s Health and Safety for the Small Business training course. Beckie said: “It’s one of our best courses. It’s aimed at

owners, directors and managers and enables someone with no health and safety knowledge to get the top health and safety tips that every business needs to follow. My dad, Paul, likes to run these courses wherever possible and he brings the subject to life with brilliant anecdotes and funny stories. We’re very proud of the fact he was awarded an
