REACH FOR THE STARS Star Micronics EMEA Q&A

We catch up with Simon Martin, Director & General Manager at Star Micronics EMEA. Star offers the latest software and hardware to strategically integrate the advantages of tablet based POS.

Q A

You guys are widely acknowledged as the leading hardware innovator in the move from traditional terminals to tablet POS. Is that what sets you apart from your competitors?

Star has the widest range of POS printers available today as well as one of the most unique and innovative. With over 30 years’ experience in the industry we have introduced a number of industry firsts and game changers including the first combined printer and cash drawer solution mPOP™ alongside the first iOS USB printer enabling direct communication and charging between the printer and Apple device for reliable tablet POS. As venues increasingly reap the benefits of tablet POS, Star provides a range of solutions offering a cost-effective upgrade path from traditional POS. Furthermore, Star works very closely with its channel and software partners and will always go the extra mile to understand customer needs and ensure these are effectively met with the best possible solution.

Q

You supply some huge, household names in the hospitality industry such as Premier Inn, Costa Coffee, ASK, Zizzi, Prezzo, Vue Cinemas to name but a few. How do jobs of that scale, with kits being supplied across multiple sites get up and running?

A range of system integrators successfully install our kit into large-scale installations. Star provides solutions that make their job so much easier. For example, with the TSP100 futurePRNT™ series venues can benefit from the unique pre-install tool that allows high volume, custom setups to be installed without even removing the printer from its box. As all settings are stored on the PC this removes the need to pre-configure the printer, reducing integration time. Individual printer settings can be mirrored to multiple units in different locations, if required. Furthermore, this is all achieved outside the core POS software. Saving time and money, the TSP100 series has been widely adopted by major hospitality operators.

Q A

How would you advise a smaller, stand-alone venue on which piece of kit to run with as the options can be overwhelming if you’re not up on your tech?

It can certainly be overwhelming for smaller, stand-alone venues looking for the right POS solution but support is at hand. Working with a number of hospitality software partners who have integrated our printers and have an in-depth knowledge of how they function, venues are assured they will receive excellent support and advice when deciding which compatible Star printers are suitable for a particular venue.

For venues that haven’t chosen which software to use, Star can advise from a hardware perspective and recommend a variety of compatible POS and payment software. Once selected, Star has an experienced technical support team on the end of the phone in the UK who will explain step by step how to install the hardware and resolve any issues encountered.

Pop-Ups are massive now in the hospitality sector and with Christmas on the horizon they will be a firm fixture across towns and cities in the UK. A Star printing solution is perfect for a pop-up right?
