www.FloridaStateParks.org Framed in forests of mangrove trees, the shell mounds and ridges of Mound Key rise more than 30 feet above the waters of Estero Bay. Te highest point for miles around, this 125-acre island was created from centuries of shells, bones and pot- tery discarded by the Calusa Indians and is believed to have been their cultural center. Te park is managed by Koreshan State Park and is accessible only by water (public boat launches are available at Koreshan State Park and Lovers Key State Park). It has no facilities. No entrance fee.
