The SouthWest Chat W
elcome to the October Amateur/Non-Pro issue of SouthWest Horse
Trader.Congratulations to all the Amateur and Non-Pro exhibitors whether it has
been your first show or your last . . . enjoy the journey! Facebook at any time can leave a person happy, sad,
laughing or angry. And the people who use it addicted. While we can all marvel on the great things Facebook brings to us - a sense of community, friends, encyclopediac knowledge - you can get all of this simply by just walking out of your door and experiencing life. While horse people need to actually leave their house to feed, ride, buy stuff, attend horse events . . . they actually still sit upon their horse with their nose in the phone. There has got to be a balance! Recently the Facebook bullies were chewing on
AQHA regarding Mark Purdy. While AQHA was trying to figure out a safe environment for Purdy to show his horse, the bullies were yelling to let him show with zero facts on the situation except the ones that would serve their side.
Meanwhile, at the horse show, meetings are being held in person and discussions are being had and
resolutions are being made. But that’s how the bullies operate. See what
someone feeds them as a perceived injustice and then they jump on the bandwagon and provide their best one-sided points with no regard or actual care if an actual resolution is made. It amazes me how pas- sionately someone can argue with zero reality facts. The same occurred yet again when the Houston
area recently flooded. The usual suspects flooded as well as properties that have never flooded. But sadly the FB bullies used this as a forum to slam flooded properties and rally to permanently remove horses from them because they must be awful owners. Well yes, some are, but the majority are good hardwork- ing people. It’s easy to criticize from the comfort of your computer. How about next time you put your phone down, walk out your door, get in your truck and go volunteer. It just might change your life. w
AQHA was honored to recognize Mark Purdy of Tioga, TX at the 2019 Ade- quan® AQHA Select World Champi- onship Show on August 29. Mark has been a member of the AQHA family since 1984, and it was his dream to show at the Adequan® Select World. Due to his current health issues, Mark was unable to compete in the aged mares class, but we wanted him to expe- rience the spotlight in the arena. Mark received a special recognition trophy and joined the other competitors during the class with his American Quarter
