From apprentice to CEO
The first ever Young Forwarder Network event with a guest speaker proves a big hit
The BIFA Young Forwarder Network (YFN) held its first event near Heathrow in the summer. The guest speaker, Rudee Bertie, CEO and Co-founder of CCL, shared his career story with over 30 captivated young people, putting an emphasis on how to build- up your personal brand through better professional networking. Starting as an apprentice, Rudee emphasised the
importance of pushing yourself and stepping out of your comfort zone in order to build confidence, which will help immensely as your career develops. Afterwards Rudee enthused: “It was an absolute
pleasure and I was happy to support the YFN. The future is placed in the hands of our youngsters and I am glad that I had the opportunity to share my experiences with them. On observation, the future looks bright. The industry has a nice solid group of
young forwarders coming through. I could feel the enthusiasm and ambition of the individuals in the room, which is always good to see.” Carl Hobbis, training development manager at BIFA,
said: “Not only was this our first event with a guest speaker, there was another first, as this was the first event organised and run by a local organising committee. “From sourcing the venue to kicking the event off,
they all did a great job and learnt the detail needed to run an event. The value the young people will have got from Rudee, and the time he spent chatting to guests during the networking part, should be invaluable to them.” The YFN has upcoming events with guest speakers
on 17 October (Liverpool), 14 November (Stratford, East London) and 21 November (Heathrow).
