Flowers Shelley Webb
A little background about Shelley Webb Proprietor of Flowers by Shelley.
I have over 25 years experience as a florist firstly starting out as an apprentice, I obtained level 3 City & Guilds qualification in 2003, and since then I have been fortunate to work all over the world doing a job I love, which has combined my passion for travel and work. I cover Floristry skills such as everyday bouquets and arrangements, to funeral tributes and corporate work. I have been specialising in Wedding flowers which recently took me to New Zealand where I gained even more skill set to pass to my lovely brides. Beginning of January 2019 I qualified to teach Floristry, and I have
time consuming if it isn’t made clear from the beginning that you’re keeping a tight rein on the pennies! Make sure that everything is fully itemised and you are happy that everything you talked about has been covered.
If all is well, and you want to book, then usually you’ll be asked to pay a deposit to secure the day and be told when the balance is due. What sort of information does your florist need to know before they give you a quote?
In an ideal world (although some brides may need more guidance than others) we like to know the colour scheme, preferred flowers, flowers to avoid (if any), budget, time of the year (as this will reflect on the flowers available) and what kind of look the bride wants to achieve.
I like to really get to know the bride to understand exactly what she is after so i can design the perfect flowers unique for her special day!
recently started workshops , I teach many skills for private individuals, group bookings to something alittle different for hen parties to make your own designs.
My business is based from home in New Hedges , Tenby. This gives me the opportunity to see brides out of hours in a relaxed setting. Get in touch..
Once you’ve decided to get in touch, you’ll need to let your florist know the following essential pieces of information ..
Date of your wedding – this is most important for your florist to check their availability as the good ones get booked up usually a year or so in advance, although it’s not unheard of for couples to book up even earlier if they really want to work with you. In terms of when’s the best time to find your florist, I find everyone’s different. Sometimes Brides come to me and they haven’t even got their dress bought, but love my flowers and know they want to book me (which, of course, is lovely), some come with scrapbooks full of lots and lots of ideas which includes styling the day complete with lots and lots of details, others are happy to put the flowers totally in my hands and leave it up to me to suggest everything! That’s what makes consultations fun, they’re never the same. My advice is don’t worry, as your florist l love flowers and because of this will make the consultation a really enjoyable part of your planning. When allocating time for your consultation, I find mine usually take at least an hour, sometimes quite a bit longer, so try not to book too many things around your appointment. Consultation
Shortly after your consultation, I will then prepare a quotation, usually sending it by email. Obviously everyone’s budgets are different, so if you do know how much you want to spend, it’s really helpful to talk about this with the florist during the consultation. We all know how easy it is to get carried away with weddings – and flowers are no exceptions, however, it can be disappointing for everyone and terribly
Colour scheme – this is often influenced by the colour your bridesmaids are wearing. Even if you haven’t bought your bridesmaids dresses, it’s always good to have an idea of whether your generally looking for brights, pastels or neutrals as a starting point. Shape/design of your bouquet – you’ll need a photo of your dress as not all shapes of bouquets suit all silhouettes. Have a look through blogs, magazines, pinterest etc and pop a few ideas of the styles and particularly shapes of bouquets you like. What happens to the flowers afterwards? They are yours to do what you would like with them. We often suggest that they double up as gifts and always try to reuse the flowers for the ceremony and the reception so you get as much out of them as possible.
