Recreation & Leisure Fall 2019 Programs Pickleball Dink Wars Tournament
Age: 18+ Max: 20 teams
Kick off the fall season of Pickleball with a Dink Wars Tournament – a double- knockout team event for all skill levels! “Dinking” is the short and soft shot of pickleball and everyone should have this skill in their arsenal.
Normal pickleball rules apply with the following exceptions:
• All play takes place within the kitchen only • Flip a coin to determine who serves fi rst • Make an intentional cross-court serve as there is no center line in the kitchen • No body shots on serve or during rally play • Games played to 11 points; must win by 2 • If the ball lands on the line, it is in (during rally or on the serve) • Ernie shots are welcome if they can be accomplished!!! • “Around the Post” shots are welcome if they can be accomplished!!!
To enter the tournament, register under the name of your fi rst player and you will be asked to fi ll in your teammate’s name and info during checkout.

Parented Programs
Preschool PLAYbook Age: 3-6 years • Max: 30 Participants Join us for this developmentally supercharged program where Physical Literacy and Early Literacy collide. Children will gain confi dence and competence in “Fundamental Movement Skills” as defi ned in the Canadian Sport For Life Active Start model and developing important pre-reading skills while enjoying stories, songs, and rhymes. Children must attend with a parent or other adult caregiver. Register at

Girls on the Move Age: 7-12 years • Max: 30 Participants Girls on the Move provides an opportunity for girls in Grades 4-6 to be physically active in an environment that is positive, barrier free, and exposes girls to new activities they may never have tried. The program is free. Find out more at

Busy Boys Age: 7-12 years • Max: 30 Participants Busy Boys provides a free opportunity for boys in Grades 4 to 6 to be physically active in an environment that aims to develop confi dence, resiliency and physical literacy skills by introducing boys to new activities.

Leaders in Progress Age: 13-17 years • Max: 12 Participants
The Leaders in Progress program at the Family Leisure Centre helps youth develop leadership skills and gain valuable experience in the realm of recreation. A Leader In Progress (LIP) is expected to: • Meet once per month (pre-designated dates and times) with a City of Medicine Hat Recreation Program Attendant and/or Recreation Program Coordinator to guide planning of youth or family theme nights (must attend at least 80% of the meetings in order to pass the program)
• Commit to attending and volunteering for at least two of the theme nights noted above • Commit a minimum of 8 hours volunteering at City of Medicine Hat programs, including but not limited to: › Halloween › Holiday and Summer Day Camps › New Year’s Eve Fest › Jam Pail Bonspiel › Family Day Fest
Leaders in Progress will receive a special edition Family Leisure Centre t-shirt along with a certifi cate upon completion of the program.
