Laws Will

Continue Changing At just over the halfway point of the year, it’s clear that while many state laws have already changed, still others will continue changing. Additionally, employers would do well to keep an eye open for any city ordinances that may pass, such as the recently passed New York City ordinance that bans employers in the city from testing for THC for pre- employment purposes. In today’s time of legal marijuana, laws

oſten change faster than employers realize. Keeping track of changing laws is essential for employers to maintain compliance,

but the task can be daunting. Employers that do not track passed and progressing laws risk non-compliance should they act on out-of-date information. Additionally, employers should regularly review and update their comprehensive drug-free workplace policies to ensure compliance with all newly passed laws, as well as applicable case law in the states in which they operate. ❚
