The Pantone colour of the year
for 2019 is Living Coral. But should you match?
Co-ordinating your lips and
nails can help you look chic and polished, but you don't have to limit yourself. Wearing clashing colours can be a fun addition to your look.
How to keep
cosmetics fresh If you want your skincare products and make-up to keep working for you, try following these simple hygiene tips:
• Store cosmetics in a cool, shaded place.
• Keep them away from direct sunlight.
• Put lids on jars, bottles and other containers when not in use.
• Try not to touch products with your fingers where possible (use cotton buds or make-up brushes
• If you must use your fingers, wash your hands thoroughly first.
• Avoid moistening make-up with water.
• Wash make-up brushes and sponges in baby shampoo or face wash weekly.
• Avoid sharing make-up with others, especially products such as mascara and lipstick.
Summer lips solution
Whenever your lips feel dry and chapped, protect them against the sun with a rich lip balm (ask your local pharmacist to recommend one for you). Before you apply it, however, try using a lip scrub to get rid of any flakiness. Here’s a really simple recipe for a DIY
coffee lip scrub that uses ingredients you may already have in your kitchen:
• Put 1tbsp ground coffee in a bowl. • Add 1tsp clear runny honey and 1tsp vegetable oil (any type will do, including sunflower oil, olive oil or coconut oil).
• Mix well and store in a small jar or air-tight container.
Take a pinch or two of the lip scrub mixture and massage it into your lips very gently for about a minute, then leave for another minute before rinsing with warm water. Apply a generous amount of balm, let it absorb into your skin, then add your usual lipstick or gloss.
Sun protection for your hair
It’s important to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays during the summer months. But what about your hair? According to experts from hair
products company Pantene, UV exposure can break down hair proteins, which weakens your hair and makes it look dull. And while having thick hair can offer more natural resilience against UV, if your hair is fine it’s more susceptible to sun damage. Meanwhile if you have dyed or tinted hair, the colour can fade if it’s exposed to too much sun. This summer protect your locks by
using a hair product with built-in SPF, such as a sun-protective hair mask or hair UV protector spray. Better still, try to keep your hair and your facial skin safe by wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
Sunkissed skin – the easy way
Today’s fake tan products are so effective, they look like the real thing. If you’re looking for something more temporary, however, try this tip. Mix some liquid bronzer with your usual body cream, then apply to arms, legs
and any other exposed skin. Not only will it give you control over how much colour you’re adding, but the pigments in the bronzer will make your skin glow (and you can wash it off at the end of the day).
