Record-breaking numbers of attendees came through the gates of the Florida State Fair February 7- 18 to enjoy the 12-day event under warm and sunny skies. Over 483,591 guests


visited this year’s fair to check out thrilling entertainment, deli- cious new treats and exciting new rides and


exhibits. To give guests a top-notch entertainment experi- ence, the Florida State Fair featured several new acts with a focus on high- energy and family-friendly fun. New to the fair this year were performers like Lady Houdini, Moto Mani- acs, Tyzen the Comedy Hypnotist, the Timber- works Lumberjack Show and the Zaji Amaz- ing Ac- robats of Chi- na. The


fair also featured Bello Nock’s Super Stunt Show, as seen on America’s Got Talent, and a live paint- ing by Arcy, a Disney spray paint artist. 2019 also brought the return of the Demolition Derby and the Budweiser Clydesdales, two crowd-pleasers in the equestrian area. The agriculture area was alive with the return of the Little Farm Hands agricultural education program, an outdoor insect encounter teeming with butterflies and the birth of twin calves in the Mooternity Ward. Livestock entries remained strong in 2019 with participa-


tion from 1,907 exhibitors, including 898 Florida FFA ex- hibitors across 51 counties. Creative living exhibits also welcomed a new aquaculture competition where exhibitors could enter aquariums to compete for the top prize. The arts and education area also welcomed a new event: Uka- palooza! Ukulele nov- ices and enthusiasts alike enjoyed live ukulele performanc- es, learned more through workshops and participated in a Spam carving com- petition. Tradition continues,

Country Living History Museum with their fair ticket. All 13 buildings, dating back to 1870 -1912, were open to explore. Artisans and historic educa- tors transported visitors back to 19th century Florida with skills and crafts demonstra- tions. Live bluegrass music completed the atmosphere. Of course, the exhilarating rides were a fair favorite of 2019. New additions to the ride se- lection included the thrilling Down Draft, a Spooky Haunted Mansion Fun House, the Too-Cute Mini Bumper Boats and many more. Last but not least, there was plenty of food to top off a great fair experience. Vendors participated in the new “Fair Foodie” Awards, and the competition was fierce. Winners of the contest included S’mores Milkshake, a Buf- fa-loaded Mac ‘n’ Cheese Quesadilla and a Fondue Burg- er.

like a Giant Mozzarella Cheese Stick, complete with a ¼ pound of cheese, Irish Potato Bowls, Spaghetti Grilled Cheese, Fried Cookie Dough and so much more. The 2019 Florida State Fair did not disappoint! It was a

Jeff Shreaves Receives CFE


technology at the Florida State Fair in Tampa since 2005. He is directly responsible for the over- all strategic planning, administration, coordina- tion, and implementation of all microcomputer, server, network, tele- communi-cations, and security surveillance equip-ment and systems. He is a member of the IAFE Web Site and Tech- nology Committee and is currently enrolled in the IAFE Institute of Fair Management. Jeff’s man- agement philosophy is about how you and your team treat yourselves and others to build a better work environment, facility, and enjoyable experience for the public. Florida Federa- tion of Fairs Executive Director Lisa Hinton said, “The projects that Jeff has implemented at the state fair are massive and impressive — truly bringing the Florida State Fair into current technological systems.” Outside of the fair, Jeff is a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, a Boy Scouts of America Adult Leader, and a certified CPR instructor. Jeff lives in Tampa with Denise, his wife of 22 years,
