(READER STORY )

He is a lovely horse but still quite an unknown quantity to me and a completely different type of horse to our own. I had no idea how I would get on in the race. I was not expecting to win, that would be an absolute dream. I just wanted to get through the finish and still be on board but would still try my very best and hope to do Val proud! About a week before the race, we were taking our two horses to the vets and our lorry broke down on the M6 and her engine blew up! It just seemed to be one thing after another! People were incredibly supportive, offering me their horses to race, and horse- boxes to transport our horses to the vets and Don to the race. People have offered help where ever they can. I have been staggered with how generous people have been donating to my just giving page.

we arrived at the point to point. All six ladies entered, turned up to race.

I was the bookies favourite but when the flag went down we were right at the back and had a lot of catching up to do. The two ladies at the front were off like a shot. I slowly picked the ones off at the back and moved up on the ladies at the front, passing them on the outside of a bend before the home straight. We flew through the finish line well ahead of the others. Paul and his friends were standing at the finish line. There was not a dry eye in the house! It was an incredible experience, it felt like a dream. Things like this don't happen to people like me!

I have raised just over my target £1,000 for Brake and to come home with a trophy for Val made it all worth while.

Don is a wonderful horse. He was an absolute pro! I have been allowed to keep him a little while longer, which is fabulous – I had fallen in love with him well before the race!

So race day came and with only two weeks to get Don used to side saddle – and having no idea how he may behave when he realised he was racing again –
