Multi-million pound renovation for RVP


Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells is set to benefi t from an £11 million investment by its owners, British Land. Scheduled to start in autumn this year – and to be completed in early summer 2020 – renovation work across the centre will enhance the public spaces for visitors, creating a high- quality shopping environment for local shoppers and will involve upgrading to new modern fl ooring throughout the


centre, fi tting new high quality seating areas, installing bespoke roofl ight features and housing a new piece of artwork, which will be created by a local designer, all inspired by Tunbridge Wells’ heritage. More than 76 jobs are expected


to be created by the renovations, and a number of local Tunbridge Wells’ companies will work with Royal Victoria Place to provide the services required.

Shopfront Improvement scheme to enhance local high streets


A new scheme to enhance high streets across the borough has been introduced by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. Shop owners within the borough’s town and district centres can apply for a Shopfront Improvement Grant of up to £5,000 from a £100,000 pot to help with refurbishments to the front of their premises. Six local businesses – Hardy’s wine store, Coco & Bloom fl orist and the Copy Shoppe in West Malling, along with Sancho’s takeaway, Glow Dry Cleaners, and artisan bakery, coffee shop and tea rooms Bakehouse in Tonbridge – have already been successful in securing a grant towards improvements. • For more information, and to apply for a Shopfront Improvement Grant, email economic.regeneration@tmbc.gov.uk


Tonbridge fi rm scoops prestigious industry award


Tonbridge fi rm Newton Waterproofi ng Systems have been crowned TCUK Innovators of the Year at the National Building Awards 2019, headlined by Global Leader Liebherr, and held at Wembley Stadium. The awards comprise 17 categories and give successful businesses in the world of building the chance to highlight their work and achievements and be judged by experts. Speaking after being

AT COUNTY SHOW The Kent County Agricultural Society has awarded a free stand to 10 new businesses based in Kent at this year’s County Show, which takes place at the showground Detling on 5th, 6th and 7th July. The Enterprise Zone at the Kent County Show was set up in 2018 to support new and developing businesses in the county. To qualify, the companies needed to be based in the region and be less than a year old. This year, the recipients include a pet groomer, handcrafted kitchenware designers and an animal photographer, demonstrating that new businesses in Kent are still developing despite Brexit uncertainty. • Maidstone-based The Electrical Academy • Jurola’s Handmade Gifts, from Cranbrook • Based in Rainham, Pet Owners First Aid delivers accredited animal fi rst aid courses • Bucolic Bockees makes countryside themed boxer shorts • Equikit, from Canterbury, is an online shop and showroom providing equestrian goods • From Sheldwich, Rico and Plato make handcrafted teak kitchenware • Queenie’s Dog Grooming and Spa, based in Paddock Wood, offers grooming for your pet pooch • Based in Ashford, Hydro Beard Graphics offer hydro dipping and custom clothing • Field and Fur Photography, based in Shepherdswell, provide professional photography services for the equine and canine market • Anna Outdoors, from Canterbury, delivers outdoor activities in Westgate Parks and Reculver Country Park through creative children’s activities inspired by nature.
