allowed for the expansion of their Bone Mineral Density (BMD) area, as well as increasing the Ultrasound area. By now there are two general x-ray rooms, one fluoroscopy, five ultrasound, two mammography and two BMD in 10,000 square feet of space. This was also the year BSA moved into the filmless era, by installing a new Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). This was no small undertaking, as it required a lot of change to the current way of thinking but did facilitate a more efficient run system. It was quite a change for the staff, as well, going from paper to a fully computerized operating system. “We always knew we had great staff, but this was one time they showed their resilience and adapted to the system quite easily,” reflects CEO Thomas Strain. In the latter part of 2006, Wendy Martin-Gutjahr joined the BSA staff as the RIS/PACS administrator and assistant Manager.

In 2012, Dr. Mark Gripp joined the partnership of Blair, Stubbs and Associates, thus changing the name to Blair, Gripp, Stubbs and Associates Inc.

2013 brought the addition of their second site which offers ultrasound services closer to home for the Brooks and area patients.

The company name and logo were becoming quite the handle so with the retirement of Dr. Ken Blair and the addition of Wendy to the partnership, in the fall of 2015, a rebranding to the current company name took place and BGSA Radiology Inc. was born. Then Pain Management and MRI services were added along with other specialized imaging in the Ultrasound area to continue the growth.

BGSA Radiology continues to play a key role in the health of patients from Medicine Hat, Brooks and the surrounding areas. Being the only community clinic in the city, BGSA (funded through Alberta Health) provides diagnostic services for nearly 300 patients a day. This helps to alleviate the strain of patient load on the hospital by offering services to patients who are not critically or urgently ill.

Part of playing a key role in the health and care of patients in our community, includes providing education not only for their staff, but the public

as well. They have provided health education articles to various news outlets during health months pertaining to their practise, for example, October is Breast Health Month. They donate to various charities within Medicine Hat, one that is near and dear to their hearts is the Breast Cancer Golf Tournament which will be in it’s 23rd year this July and they have been part of it for 16 of those years.

At the end of 2019, another era will be ending and new one will begin. After being with BGSA for all but three months of their 22 years of existence and 42 in the Diagnostic Imaging services, Tom will be retiring as CEO and partner Wendy Martin-Gutjahr will be moved into the CEO position and Laura Lunge will move into the Managerial role.

BGSA Radiology is located at 1854 Southview Drive SE in Medicine Hat and 220 4th Street West in Brooks.
