Helsinki Becomes European Center of the Precision Investment Casting Industry


T


he European Investment Casters´ Federation (EICF) held its Annual General Meeting in Helsinki last


20 of May 2019. With that occasion and in cooperation with the Association of Finnish Foundry Industry, the EICF EURO Seminar 2019 was held from 20 till 22 of May at the Marina Congress Center.


The Investment Casting Seminar


was focused this time on the theme “Alloy Melting and Pouring – Casting Best Practice” which becomes the core process into this technology. The key note presentation was given by Juhani Orkas Professor and Principal Adviser, Aalto University and Association of Finnish Foundry Industries, on the topic of Finnish foundry industry and foundry research in Aalto University.

Suppliers’ contribution to the industry were also reviewed with presentations showing state of the art solutions coming from Remet, Foseco, Fireline, Createc etc. The seminar was complemented with an Exhibition from the industries serving the sector with an international character beyond European boundaries. Exhibitors from USA, Canada and China have joined European exhibitors to show the latest developments supporting the Industry. A technical poster session was also included within the Exhibition.


… and Universities presented technical papers covering the state of the art practice into the theme. Topics like, most advanced alloys and superalloys, 3D printing applications into filtering techniques, melted alloy measurement temperature techniques, advanced melting practices in vacuum casting, titanium castings with levitation melting technology, were reviewed.


Complementing the above, a


technical industry visit was held in Riihimäki to the facilities of Sacotec Components Oy and SAKO Ltd. The visit was welcomed by the top management of


both companies


providing detailed information on the history and development of the companies. Visit to the facilities was very well conducted divided by groups of 8 to 10 persons allowing the interaction of questions about the industrial processes and equipment visited. Impression from visitors were excellent on the installations and visit organization.


Overall number of attendees were


beyond 185, with origin from more than 20 International and European countries, being a record figure for this sort of specialist seminar.
