Kolene Celebrates 80 Years of Innovation K olene®

foundries worldwide with Kastech®

cleaning processes.

Corporation provides molten salt casting

Capable of

removing most commonly used ceramic compositions, the processes are compatible with ferrous and select non-ferrous castings (including aluminum).

Ideally used after

preliminary mechanical pre-cleaning, Kastech processes are fast, safe, and efficient; incorporation of free silica in the shell and core mixes greatly speeds up the leaching rate. Intricate or deep internal passages are cleaned as thoroughly as exposed surfaces. With the introduction of the

Kolene Kastech AL750 process for leaching ceramics from aluminum investment castings, foundries now have the potential to produce more complex and sophisticated aluminum castings. Utilizing molten salt to leach silica-based

chemicals Complimentary such as Kolene’s

Alpha 400 maintain optimum quench and rinse water conditions to preserve surface finishes. Kolene engineers task-specific molten salt equipment to permit safe, efficient, and productive leaching. Fully enclosed and ventilated, systems range from manually operated unitized systems for quick installation to fully automated multi-tank lines. Byproducts formed during leaching are collected in pans that sit in the body of the molten salt bath. Once filled, they are removed with the work hoist and dumped into a dedicated sludge dumping zone where the sludge can cool and solidify.

The

cooled solid sludge may then be removed from the line for treatment or disposal. The sludge will have a high pH and may contain restricted metals, depending on the types of alloys processed. Management Systems or SMS™

Sludge for

treating sludge in-house are available from Kolene.

To complete the process, Kolene

offers technical service specialists to help commission and maintain the molten salt process equipment. Critical spare part recommendations are made and can be ordered from our parts warehouse. Our mission is to provide fully

integrated cleaning processes consisting of equipment, process chemicals, and ongoing support.
