Warnings after jogger aacked

POLICE are appealing for infor- mation after a female joggerwas sexually assaulted by twomen in Maidstone. The incident happened between

9.10pm and 10pm on Sunday, April 28, in the area of Cave Hill and StrawMill Hill, Tovil. It is reported that awomanwas

jogging when she was ap- proached by two men who grabbed her and sexually as- saulted her. One of the suspects is described

as being white, aged between 20 and 30 years old, 6ft tall, of slight build and wearing a dark beanie hat with dark clothing. The other man is said to be

white, 5ft 10ins tall andwore dark baggy clothing. He spoke in a for- eign accent and had a tattoo on one of his arms. Officers have been carrying out

house-to-house inquiries in the Tovil area to see if anyone sawthe two assailants.

The area around StrawMillHill

and CaveHill is largely rural and is a favourite with joggers, dog walkers and cyclists throughout the year. One resident said: “You do hear

about women being attacked in the town, but the fact there were two men involved makes it a bit unusual and a lotmore scary. “Let’s hope the police concen-

trate on getting these people off the streets and that local women stay vigilant if they are out on their own. But itwould be a great pity if local people had to start varying their routines because of these horrible people.” Anybodywith information that

might assist the investigation is asked to call Kent Police on 01622 604 100, quoting reference 46/82930/19. Alternatively, call the inde-

pendent charityCrimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555111.

Get involved in show

VOLUNTEERS are invited to get involved in presenting some of themost popular shows in the county at Detling. The recruitment drive comes fromthe Kent County Agricultural Society

ahead of its 90thKentCounty Showin July (5, 6 and7),which last year at- tracted 74,000 visitors to its grounds on the top of Detling Hill. The society says volunteers are vital to running the charity’s popular

events. The society’s headline event, the Kent County Showoffers volunteers a

chance to get involved in a range of activities involving its equine and live- stock rings, heritage and garden life sections, as well as the trade areas. The society also organises Farm Expo, the Heritage Transport Show and Living Land exhibitions, offering other opportunities for fans of farmma- chinery and vintage vehicles.
