PC hit in face during arrest
AMAIDSTONE man punched a police officer inthe face ashewas being arrested following a road accident, a court heard. JacobKeep (21), of PostleyRoad,
grazed PC Foskett’s head and face in the early hours of April 7 on Holland Road. Prosecuting, Mark Kateley told
MaidstoneMagistratesCourt: “Po- licewere calledto a roadtraffic col- lision in Hollen Road in the early hours of April 7. There were a number of people at the scenewho were agitated, includingMr Keep. “Mr Keep swore at PC Foskett
multiple times, saying ‘your pa- tience is running out, you ****’ and waswarned by the officer tomove away fromthe scene.” The court heardKeep continued
to be verbally abusive to the officer andwhen the policeman took hold of his arm to arrest him, Keep punched him in the face causing his glasses to fly off and break. The court sawimages of the po-
liceman’s injuries,which showeda grazed head and cut lip. Defending, Richard Lamb said:
“This was a very unpleasant of- fence. Mr Keep is a disabled man and his grandparents look after him. On this occasion, he got a bit over-excited and acted completely out of character.He’s disabled, it’s not like he goes round punching people on a daily basis. “He is currently on benefits and
only receives around £90 a month.” Chairman of the bench, Sheila
Potipher said: “Assaulting a police officer is a nasty
offence.Thepolice are there to keep us safe and pro- tect us and do not deserve to be treated like that. I hope you now understand that.” Keep pleaded guilty to the as-
sault of an emergency worker by beating and criminal damage for the broken glasses,worth approxi- mately £80. Hewas due for sentence later.
TWOteenagerswere arrested after suspecteddrugsandmobilephones were thrown over a wall and into Maidstone Prison. Kent Policewere called at4.15pm
on Sunday, May 5 when it was re- ported suspicious parcels had been found in the prison grounds. A search of the area was carried
out and patrols in Week Street lo- cated two people matching a de- scription of the suspects. Aspokesman for Kent Police said:
“They were reported to have at- tempted to resist arrest and one of themranaway fromofficers,before he was located again in Sandling Road.” A19-year-oldman fromSouthall, Middlesex, was arrested on suspi-
cionof throwinga prohibitedarticle into prison and for resisting arrest. A man, aged 18 from Hanwell,
west London, was also arrested, for throwing a prohibited article into prison and escaping from lawful custody. Both men have been bailed to
return to a police station on May 31.
Drugs suspect arrested in town
A SUSPECTED drugs dealer has been arrested after heroin and kniveswere seized following a stop and search inMaidstone. Police on foot patrol in the town centre onMay 8 stopped a man
whowas acting suspiciously inKing Street.Hewas found to be car- rying heroin and was arrested. A further search revealed two mobile phones and a quantity of
cash, and when police went to a property linked to the man they found a set of scales and several knives. The suspect, aged 53 and fromMaidstone, was released pending further investigation.
