CLAIRE IN THE COUNT Y F E S T IVAL S EASON

LIVE 24-SEVEN

TIME TO BOOK YOUR TICKETS AS FESTIVAL SEASON BEGINS!

Warmer weather is on the way so it’s time to make plans. There are now more festivals than ever before, if I’m honest trying to deice which to attend is the hard part!

Claire Thayers

What’s on, where do you go, who do you go with and what time of the year is going to be the best - because let’s face it, however much we love the music do we want rain muddy boots and the misery of sliding around it?

I would love to go to Glastonbury, well actually I wish I’d gone 30 years ago, I think its too late for me now, although I hear there are great glamping alternatives! But that just seems an opt out doesn’t it?

So, for me, for this year I think it’s a case of choosing festivals that are close by, close enough to have a great day, super night and a taxi home to enjoy a warm house, fresh sheets and comfortable bed! I admit I’m getting old - the thought of a blow-up bed fills me with dread…but there was a time…

One of the funniest memories I have was the joy of Rock Oyster Festival, in the depths of Cornwall. A great bunch of friends with a varied array of tents and camper vans, we all pitched up on the Friday night and couldn’t wait to unload the Pimms, Prosecco and peanuts! From then on it was a case of eating,

drinking, dancing and sleeping (albeit not a lot) for three long days (and fairly short nights).

Waking up in the awning of a friend’s campervan, I looked across to my friend in her sleeping bag and realised that we were actually so inebriated the night before we hadn’t even realised that we were sleeping on a slight incline, with our heads lower than our feet! Neither of us could get out of bed and then my friend Kate delivered the best line ever; “I can’t get up I think my tits are too heavy!” Then we really couldn’t get up as we were laughing so much, in fact we laughed for three solid days and nights!

I cannot recommend a festival weekend away enough - whatever your age! Just remember to choose the right friends, the right weekend and the right music so that you all enjoy it. You’ll make memories to last a life time, whatever the weather. Whether you camp or return home to the warmth of your own bed, just do it! (with or without the glitter and hotpants!)
