As you are keenly aware, we are now in this midst of the 86th Texas Legislature. As I write this letter, close to 1000 bills have already been introduced, the House just named a new Speaker, Cities and Counties are wondering how they will provide so many underfunded services to our residents, and the State is trying to control the budget. As housing advocates, how do we continue to house our most at-risk residents and promote economic growth? We have a huge task in front of us!


TALHFA will be in the halls of the Capital during the session to educate our elected officials and their staff members. We are the voice of the underserved and one of the strongest economic drivers of this State for affordable housing. I strongly encourage all members to stay alert and support any legislative activity promoted by TALHFA. Ms. Jeanne Ta- lerico, TALHFA Executive Director and Mr. Todd Kercheval, our Legisla- tive Expert in Austin, will be our ears and voice during the next several months. Please lend them your knowledge and voice to serve the next generation of Texans.

As a third generation Texan, I have been keeping


an eye on all my Horny Toad Friends and fellow Texans! Texas is still one of the most affordable States in the US, expressly in housing costs. But, as one of the finest States in the Union, there is still much work to be done.
