Halesworth & Southwold Community News May 2019 3 WE’RE experience improving along
Leiston Film Theatre News your
Theatre! Our new foyer is coming
at Leiston Film very
nicely
indeed and will provide our venue with a lot more space and shorter queues, as pre-booked tickets will be collected from a separate counter. We very much appreciate your understanding during these works – we really do have the best customers! We have a host of great
films on screen in the coming weeks, plus four live shows to look forward to. Raising funds for the Air Ambulance, The Bootleg Shadows recreate the music of one of the most popular instrumental groups in the world, when they appear on Saturday 8th June at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £17.50 and are already selling well, as are tickets for The Mods and Rockers Show on Saturday 11th May at 7.30pm. Johnny Warman’s musical
journey
through the 60’s and 70’s really is a show not to be missed and features the music of the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Small Faces, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, The Animals, The Zombies
plus many, many
more. Tickets are still available, priced £15, but are expected to sell out shortly, so don’t leave it too late! Neil Gore brings his one-man show, The Ragged Trousered
Philanthropists, to
our stage on Tuesday 7th May. Based on the famous book by Robert Tressell, it features political
conjuring, music
and songs echoing life in the building trades of Edwardian England. Tickets
are priced
at £10 for adults and £8 for concessions.
I am especially looking
forward to welcoming back Britain’s Got Talent finalist Steve Hewlett, along with his cast of crazy characters on Saturday 25th May. Steve shot to fame for his superb skills as a Ventriloquist on Britain’s Got Talent in 2013, alongside Arthur Lager and little Simon Cowell. Steve first appeared at the Film Theatre in 2014 as part of our centenary celebrations and his family friendly show will no doubt prove a popular attraction for the May half term school holidays. Tickets are priced at £12.50 for adult, £11.95 for concessions, with a family ticket for only £40. Films for May include the return of Fisherman’s Friends
(12A), which is back on screen for two days on Sunday 5th and Sunday 12th May. Inspired by true events, Judi Dench stars in Red Joan (12A) showing from Friday 3rd May and telling the story of an English born Soviet and communist party sympathizer, who becomes employed as a British government civil servant and gets recruited by the KGB in the mid 1930’s. Little ones can look forward
to lots of snorts and giggles with two special screenings of Peppa Pig: Festival of Fun (U) on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May at 11.30am, with all seats priced at £5.40 and the enjoyable family pleaser, Missing Link (PG), showing for four days only during the half term holidays from Tuesday 28th May. Tolkien (12A) tells of the celebrated authors personal life, which was an epic tale full of adventure, bravery and tragedy, as well as a love story and is on screen from Friday 17th May, with a matinee on Sunday 19th and Wednesday 22nd May. Our big film for May is Rocketman, the biographical musical/drama
about the
uncensored human story of Elton John's breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton and showing at Leiston Film Theatre from the UK release date of Friday 24th May. We
are pleased to be
screening The Australian Ballet’s, Spartacus (PG) on Wednesday 8th May at 7.30pm. Delivering
a mesmerising
display of masculinity, mostly through wildly explosive Colosseum battle scenes, the sheer strength of the company’s men is showcased through a series of flying fists and torso twists in a performance that is

both bold and commanding. Tickets are priced at £14.95. May comes to a close with Avengers: Endgame
(12A),
which is showing for three days only from Friday 31st May, ahead of a packed June programme,
which includes
Richard Curtis’, Yesterday, which stars Ana de Armas, Lily James and Ed Sheeran, with locations including Suffolk and Norfolk, showing at Leiston Film Theatre from the UK release June.

Water 2019 HALESWORTH Community Choir is supporting this year’s “Sing for Water” project in aid of Water-Aid. Money raised from this project will be used to bring clean water and sanitation to people in Malawi, a project made all the more vital following Cyclone Idai, which caused severe flooding in Mozambique,
Zimbabwe and
Malawi. “Sing for Water” involves performances of water-themed songs by massed choirs around the country; these have raised over £1 million for Water-Aid’s work over the past 17 years. Members of Halesworth Community Choir will be performing at the event in London in September, but the good news is that residents of Halesworth and surrounding areas can get a preview of the “Sing for Water” songs at Halesworth Community Choir’s “Concert for Water Aid” at The Cut, in Halesworth on June 8th. The concert will feature songs from across the globe, including one inspired by Sioux Indians in North Dakota and one from Lesotho. In addition to the “Sing for Water” songs the choir will perform locally composed songs with a watery theme. All proceeds from the concert will go to Water Aid.
Come and join us on Saturday 8th June at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and available from The Cut box office, (Tel 0300 303 3211; E-mail:
boxoffice@newcut.org).
