we look forward to welcoming a young team from Poloafrica to Smith’s Lawn for the Out-Sourcing Inc Royal Windsor Cup Final to experience one of the very best days at Guards Polo Club, concluding with the opportunity to play in front of HM The Queen.” Of course, the aim of Polo150 is to

be as inclusive as possible, not only acknowledging the military origins of the sport but incorporating all elements and players (past and present) of today’s global game. As part of this ethos, Mark Cann has invited a team of young, aspiring players from South Africa, to tour the UK. This is in conjunction with the Poloafrica programme, based in the foothills of the Maluti mountains in the Eastern Free State of South Africa. The programme has been running for more than 12 years for the benefit of economically disadvantaged rural adults and children. Poloafrica gives adults the opportunity to participate in equestrian activities in a professional manner and provides youngsters with a supportive, yet disciplined, environment, to give them a sense of self-worth to help them flourish and grow. Meanwhile, the children are given the opportunity to take care of ponies and to ride and play polo, providing they demonstrate discipline and commitment to the animal, the sport, their schoolwork and the life skills lessons provided by Poloafrica in the school holidays. Poloafrica’s aim is to drive a change in the mindset that leads them to aspire to new horizons. Guards Polo Club is involved in this celebration of Polo150 too. The

Poloafrica team tour will run for two weeks, culminating in a game at Guards Polo Club on Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Windsor Cup Finals Day on Sunday 23 June. So, thanks to the funds raised by Mark Cann (principally from the Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation (ERSF)), the generosity of sponsors and Guards Polo Club, these young players will not only have an amazing opportunity to play on some of the best grounds in England but also in the presence of HM The Queen. Another way that Polo150 is being
celebrated is through the creation of a limited edition set of golden polo balls. These will be distributed to key influencers of polo today, including leading polo clubs, players, sponsors and governing bodies around the world. Recipients will be asked to include the ball in a polo event during 2019 which will highlight the 150th anniversary of the modern game. Here in the UK, Hackett London is
hosting a photographic exhibition to highlight 150 years of the sport. The dates are yet to be confirmed but it is expected to be mid-May. There will also be an online auction of polo items with Graham Budd Auction from 29 June – 15 July. A hugely positive result of Polo150
will be that it will raise money for polo- related charities throughout the world, like Poloafrica, helping many others to enjoy this great game that we all love. If Yearbook readers would like to contribute donations can be made directly via Just Giving or direct via
