Events graduate from Glasgow evokes spirit of Phileas Fogg

A

n events graduate from Glasgow has embarked on the challenge of a lifetime by travelling ‘around the world in 80

events’. Evoking the spirit of Phileas Fogg,

Raising funds for Govan-based charity Revive MS as he goes, a condition that his mother suffers from, Matt aims to visit 27 countries in 10

months and will volunteer or be a spectator at events including:

l Te Nagasaki Tall Ship Festival in Nagasaki, Japan; l Te Honda Celebration of Light in Vancouver, Canada; l Waitangi Ki Okahu Day in Auck- land, New Zealand; l Electric Avenue Music Festival, Christchurch, New Zealand; l Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, Indonesia; l Palio di Siena Horse Race, Italy. l Tour de France; l Harley Davidson Road Fest, Budapest; l Carnival of Cultures, Berlin; l 2019 European Games, Minsk.

LAMB, FROM Robroyston, said: “Tis type of adventure has never been done before in the timeframe I am aiming to achieve it in.

“So, the challenge is about

pushing myself to achieve some- thing different and worthwhile. Secondly, I fully believe around the world there are unique events which I wanted to explore. Six years ago I decided to come up with this idea of going around the world to meet, discover and learn about all these events. I want to then bring all of this learning and impact to the events world in Scotland.” A passionate events advocate,

Matt, 27, aims to discover the dif- ferent dimensions of events around the world and hopes his trip will be recognised as a ‘world first’ as well as a far-reaching and ‘unique events research project delivering insights into the events industry worldwide’. He will take in some of the biggest – and smallest – global events across the sporting, cultural

and arts sectors and hopes to get an understanding of ‘the details’ that make them a success. Preparing for his depature on

February 4, Matt has already made 60 separate accommodation book- ings, will update his followers with a regular blog and has organised a series of meetings and venue tours along the way, including with Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Australian Open and Eventbrite. A former bank lecturer in Events

Management at City of Glasgow College, teaching different modules while completing his Master’s, Matt also hopes to speak at universities about the project, the findings and the importance of ‘following your dreams’. n
