Music festival supremo decries new ‘environmental levy’ on park events

new ‘environmental levy’ will be added to the price of tickets for park events in Glasgow - prompting one of Scot-
land’s best-known music promoters to decry the move. Geoff Ellis, creator of T in the
Park, has accused city councillors of hitting fans in the pocket after they voted last month to apply an
extra charge of up to £2.50 on every ticket.
Te measures are part of a
council-wide drive to plug a £41m funding gap in next next year’s budget, but Ellis said the plan will have a “negative impact on the city’s economy”. Ellis, whose TRSNMT festival
takes place on Glasgow Green from July 12-14, said it will “deter” people from attending events and lose revenue for the city.
Top UK and international artists
are due to perform at the weekend event, including Stormzy, George Ezra and Catfish & the Bottlemen. Ellis’s company, DF Concerts,
already pays a “substantial” amount of money as a rental fee to use Glasgow Green each summer, which it uses to clean up the site following the event. Tis has meant resurfacing work,
