Jack rewarded for his dedication to borough
A SNODLAND man has been recognised as an Environmental Champion by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council for “going the extramile”. Jack Bennett (81), of the High
Street, is employed by East Malling and Larkfield Parish Council as caretaker at its village halls. His job includes litter pick- ing at recreation grounds and Leybourne Lakes. A spokesman for TMBC said:
“He must have picked up tons of litter over the years, and he con- tinues his dedicated duties to this day, at the grand age of 81. What really makes his day is when a member of the public turns and says to him ‘Jack, you make us proud you do such a lovely job of keeping our parks beautifully clean’. Thank you Jack.” Jack used to live in EastMalling
and moved to Snodland about nine years ago. His wife died in 2005. He likes walking, going on holidays, and motorcycling. His
present motorcycle, a Honda 600cc, was bought by his chil- dren – daughter Ann Marie, and sons Thomas and James – for his 70th birthday. Jack was born in Burham and
used to catch the ferry to Snod- land on Sundays to go to the cin- emawith friend TedWesson, who also lives in Snodland. Four individuals and 10 groups
won the Environmental Champi- ons awards, which are now in their 10th year.

GPpractices
extend hours SNODLAND Medical Practice is working withWestMalling Group Practice and Thornhills Medical Practice on a rota basis to provide improved access to GPs and other healthcare professionals. These extended services are
available from 7-8am and 6.30- 8pm,Monday to Friday, and 9am to noon on Saturdays. John Stockham, chairman of
Snodland Medical Practice Pa- tient ParticipationGroup, said: “To get an appointment at one of the practices, please call your own GP practice and the reception staff will be able to access these appointments. “Patients said they needed bet-
ter access to GP services and it was hard for people who worked during the day to get an appoint- ment. In response, we set up a pilot extended GP service which has proved very popular. This has now beenmade permanent. “We encourage people to keep
themselves fit and healthy, and treat minor ailments and injuries at home. This helps us ensure that when they need to see a GP, one is available.”
