Focus on precision farming as Arable Event returns
T
he Midlands annual event for arable farmers is to re- turn for its sixth year on
19 June with a focus on precision farming.
Held on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border, the Ara- ble Event recorded its best ever attendance last year, with more than 1,200 delegates from across the industry, and looks set to im- prove on those numbers in 2019. Organised by Wynnstay and GrainLink, the day is built around a series of Syngenta crop trials – including winter wheat, win- ter barley, oilseed rape, soya and winter triticale. Guided tours take place throughout the day to share updates on how the varieties are performing.
Another key feature since the
the Oxford English Dictionary with coining the word ‘Brexit’ – lawyer, author and lobbyist Pe- ter Wilding, of FBC Manby Bowd- ler Solicitors. Mr Wilding will give an up-to- the-minute overview of where we stand in the Brexit process and the preparations and planning farming businesses need to be carrying out. Also presenting will be agri-business consultant, Graham Redman, of the Ander- sons Centre. Another fi rst will be one-on-

Arable Event’s inception has been machinery demonstrations. This year will see a wide range of the latest precision drilling equip- ment shown off by some of the region’s leading dealers. Rea Valley Tractors will demonstrate the John Deere 750A with its new Pro Series

A range of speakers will pro-
vide updates on key topics, includ- ing this year the man credited by
one ‘ask the expert’ sessions with key specialists across a range of topics. The Arable Event is free to attend and guests receive comple- mentary food and drink through- out the day from a small farmers’ market with local produce. Attendees can also collect BA-
SIS and NRoSO points – plus, for the fi rst time, being able to collect extra points by following a BASIS ‘knowledge trail’. Event manager, Kelly Dolphin,
said: “We are looking forward to building on the momentum from previous years. The Arable Event is very well known now and wide- ly appreciated as a quality day out from which farmers take useful experience, as well as the chance to catch up with their peers. “Brexit has remained on our radar as an important topic for discussion and this year we’re delighted to have Peter Wild- ing among our speakers to give some real political insight as well as crucial practical guidance for farming businesses.” The Arable Event website will feature a versatile system for booking and receiving tick- ets via mobile.
