Technology Farmers offered £3k to test their innovations
farm research – with all projects to be thought up, co-designed, and run by farmers.
R
Robust solutions Part-funded by AHDB, the aim of FarmInn is to provide real-world, scientifi cally robust solutions to the challenges faced by UK agri- culture. The scheme will provide free access to Rothamsted’s re- searchers and facilities, by pair- ing farmers with experts in the fi eld.
It is anticipated that about seven projects will initially be funded, with each farmer receiv- ing up to £3000 to cover the eli- gible costs of running their trial. Any proposal that addresses the effi ciency, productivity and sus- tainability of farm businesses will be considered. “We want to hear from the farmers themselves,” says pro-
othamsted Research is launching a new fund to support innovative on-
ject leader Dr Ian Shield. “Farmers are by nature great innovators, continually striving for new and better ways of doing things. They also possess a huge wealth of expertise, and when it comes to their own land, an unri- valled level of knowledge. “We aim to support that spirit of discovery by taking away some of the fi nancial risks of trying something new, and by providing them with specialist support in terms of designing experiments, collecting data and analysing re- sults.”
Application Farmers are being asked to sub- mit their idea via a short, simple application form and projects will be chosen by a panel of Rotham- sted staff, who will then assign a suitable scientist to work with the applicant to produce a pro- ject plan. For full details, visit

CropTec to feature latest in cutting edge agronomy
This year’s CropTec show will take place on 27-28 November at the East of England Showground, Peterborough. Aimed at growers, agronomists and others within the sector, the two- day event will include a host of exhibits and seminars for visitors looking to remain profi table. It follows a sold-out show featuring more than 170
exhibitors in 2018. Organisers say the 2019
show will be even bigger and better this year, featuring a wide range of new and exciting seminar topics and content-driven hubs providing unmissable insight into new technology and cutting edge agronomy. Alongside the seminar
and hubs, the sprayer demonstration area will return, with the latest sprayers available to test drive.
