Kitchens:
Traditional The term ‘traditional’ not only covers wood finishes, such as pine, oak and mahogany, but also the general style of the kitchen layout. A large wooden table may, for example, act as the centre or focal point of the kitchen so that the family can gather around for home-cooked meals. The traditional kitchen also tends to include large, double-door larder units, equally large, oversized feature canopy, plate racks and lattice-fronted or Georgian-barred display units. One of the most typical appliances to be spotted in this type of kitchen is the Aga or range-style cooker. These cookers are not only amazingly attractive and authentic looking, but are extremely practical in that they can also heat your home!
Farmhouse Ironically, to recreate the simple, rustic, ‘olde worlde’ kitchen today can cost a nice little penny! To replicate the simple farmhouse look, you need to go for real oak, which few can really afford, and authentic farmhouse designs. Effective veneers are available, which can reduce your spend a little, but don’t forget – a few steps in the wrong direction, or going a little OTT with the décor and you can turn your ‘farmhouse’ look into that of a country pub!
