Modernmum 1
Next issue July 2019
I have to admit that I love spring! It’s the season that’s most closely associated with birth and renewal and, since I live in the country, it’s the time of the year when the fields are peppered with hundreds of little lambs gambolling with their friends. Speaking of births, it’s probably fair to say that those of you, who are currently reading this welcome, are already pregnant or already mums, so it’s easy to forget that many women struggle with fertility issues. Sean and Maria O’Connor faced the terrible news that they would never be able to conceive naturally but, undaunted, the couple endured several years of fertility treatment and are now the proud parents of three-year-old Penny and nine-month-old Alex. They tell their story on page 4.
Have you ever seen your child deep in thought and wondered what exactly is filling their little head? Well, on page 22, a new book by parenting expert Tanith Carey and clinical psychologist Dr Angharad Rudkin may be able to help you figure it out! Talking about health issues isn’t easy for many women, but, thanks to a great initiative in Newry, many new mums are finding it easy to discuss subjects like breastfeeding with pharmacist, Stephanie Haughey (p20).
Elsewhere in the magazine, we have the usual terrific features: from the joys of ginger (p12), to creating a stress-free family life (p46). And, if you’re looking for somewhere to spend a great family day out, check out our fantastic ‘out and about’ section (p47).
