Capturing the special moments of your big day is important. Booking your ideal photographer and making sure each step is documented along the way ensures your memories are perfectly preserved forever.

Here are some things to consider when planning how to best record your special day:

❚ What kind of photography are you looking for? Do you want engagement and wedding day photos? Pictures with more artistic flair and different points of view or straightfor- ward ceremony and wedding party shots? Do you want video shot, as well? Think about what you want captured leading up to and on the day of your wedding. Some photographers will be with you every step of the way with secondary shooters to make sure every beat is captured.

❚ Photographers are as different as the couples who hire them. Some specialize in certain aspects of photography (like bou- doir), some don't do weddings at all, some enjoy exclusively shooting them. Take time to ask around and get recommendations from your friends and family, check the pho- tographers' websites, call and ask to meet with the ones you're interested in! You want to feel comfortable with the person you've hired and make sure you're going to get the results you're looking for.

❚ Don't skip the professional photographer unless you want to spend months trying to track down photos guests have taken on their smart phones or personal cameras. A couple shots might make it to Instagram or Facebook but you won't be able to have large prints, a physical photo album, or a disc of edited pictures. Everyone loves docu- menting moments in their lives with their own devices but that doesn't make them professional quality and the results might

not live up to how you remembered them. Photographers can be costly but the work they put into making sure your day is properly captured is worth it.

❚ A good way to get comfortable with your photographer is to have them shoot your engagement photos to start. Many photog- raphers will offer package deals that include everything. The more comfortable you are around your photographer, the more likely your photos will turn out truly reflective of how excited, happy, and overjoyed you are in the moment.

❚ Photo booths at receptions are so much fun! They're a great source of entertainment and are an alternative to the usual reception activities. Who hasn't piled into a photo booth at a mall or arcade and taken wacky photos of themselves and as many friends they can squeeze in as possible? The new photo booths are much the same but with props and ALL of your friends! The pictures from a photo booth are candid and funny and give you a different way to remember your day.
